Compounded Semaglutide in the News
An Important Message For Our Patients:
Our office has had many, MANY calls inquiring about the availability of semaglutide shots.
At Proactive, we put the well-being of our patients first. While the brand name, FDA-approved GLP-1 medications have been deemed safe and effective in appropriate patients, that's NOT what most of our competitors are offering.
Exploiting a loophole in patent law, compounding pharmacies are making a cheap knock-off of the FDA-approved meds, Ozempic/Wegovy/Mounjaro/Saxenda. While they are calling this cheaper shot "semaglutide", the same as the generic name of Ozempic/Wegovy, IT IS NOT THE SAME THING and it is NOT FDA-approved. There is NO DATA to assure ourselves and our patients that these knock-off shots are either safe or effective. The following NBC News clip explains:

It is possible that these bootlegged shots might work and they may be safe but we simply aren't willing to gamble with our patients' health to line our pockets.
We understand how vulnerable people are when it comes to losing weight. It is hard and it is tempting to try almost anything that might help make it less hard. We are here to help and we will always provide sound, scientific advice and treatments that are proven to be both safe and effective.
We can and do prescribe the FDA-approved GLP-1 medications in appropriate patients. We do not consider them first-line medications in most patients due to associated side effects, yet-unknown risks, and cost but they can be a good option for select individuals. If you have any questions, please reach out to our staff at 858-484-2800.
